Croatia: CROPEX sees lower trading volumes and higher electricity prices in May 2026

A total volume of 1,103,572.8 MWh of electricity was traded on the Croatian energy exchange CROPEX in May 2026, representing a 6.5% decrease compared to April. Of this total, 872,232.4 MWh was traded on the day-ahead market, while 226,340.4 MWh was recorded on the intraday market. Overall trading activity in May 2026 was also 6.9% lower compared to the same month last year.

The average daily base price on the day-ahead market in May stood at 103.58 euros/MWh, marking a 14.6% increase compared to the previous month. The average euro-peak price reached 64.94 euros/MWh, which is 10.7% higher than in April. On the intraday market, the average price rose to 106.89 euros/MWh, reflecting a strong 22.1% increase month-on-month.

The average daily traded volume on the day-ahead market amounted to 28,297.8 MWh, indicating stable but slightly reduced market liquidity during the month.

CROPEX was established on 11 March 2016 in cooperation with Nord Pool, Europe’s leading electricity exchange, and is jointly owned by the Croatian electricity transmission system operator (HOPS) and the Croatian electricity market operator (HROTE). The intraday market was launched in April 2017. Later, on 19 June 2018, following a joint project between Croatian and Slovenian transmission system operators and power exchanges, the CROPEX day-ahead market was successfully coupled with the MRC markets via the Croatian–Slovenian border.
