Romania: OPCOM April 2026 electricity market shows lower prices and declining intraday volumes

In April 2026, the average electricity price on Romania’s day-ahead market operated by OPCOM reached €95.55/MWh, reflecting an increase of 10.55% year-on-year, but a decline of 9.13% compared to March 2026, when the average baseload price stood at €105.15/MWh.

Market activity showed a mixed trend. Total traded volume on the day-ahead market amounted to 1.14 million MWh, which is 1.28% lower than April 2025 and 15.97% below March 2026. The average hourly traded volume stood at 1,582.4 MWh/h, indicating a noticeable slowdown in short-term market activity compared to the previous month.

The total value of transactions in April reached €115.1 million, representing an increase of 7.72% compared to April 2025 (when it stood at €106.8 million), but a significant decrease of 22.32% compared to March 2026 (€148.1 million). The share of the day-ahead market in forecasted net consumption in April 2026 stood at 31.66%, reflecting stable market participation relative to system demand.

On the intraday market, a total of 147,579.2 MWh was traded in April, marking a decline of 29.28% year-on-year and 6.65% month-on-month. The average intraday price was €56.18/MWh, which is 20.49% lower than April 2025 and 36.17% below March 2026, indicating a significant easing of short-term price pressure and increased downward volatility in intraday trading conditions.
