Europe: Electricity demand rises across major markets amid higher temperatures

In the third week of June, electricity demand rose across all major European markets, continuing the upward seasonal trend compared with the previous week. Italy recorded the strongest increase at +12%, while Germany posted the smallest rise at +1.2%. Other markets also saw steady growth, with Belgium, Portugal, the United Kingdom, France, and Spain registering gains ranging from +3.8% in Belgium to +8.2% in Spain. Germany, France, Portugal, Italy, and Belgium extended their growth trend for a second consecutive week, while Spain continued its expansion for a fifth straight week of rising demand.

During the same period, average temperatures increased across all analyzed markets, supporting higher electricity consumption driven mainly by cooling demand. Belgium experienced the largest temperature rise at +7.4°C, while Portugal saw the smallest increase at +2.1°C. In Spain, Italy, Great Britain, Germany, and France, temperature increases ranged between +2.8°C and +6.3°C, with France among the most affected by warmer conditions.

For the fourth week of June, forecasts from AleaSoft Energy Forecasting indicate that electricity demand is expected to continue increasing across the main European markets, reflecting sustained summer weather impacts and ongoing consumption growth across the region, AleaSoft reports.
