Electricity trading on Croatia’s CROPEX exchange reached 1.512 TWh in August, rising 6.9% from July and 27.4% from a year earlier, alongside a sharp increase in wholesale prices.
Day-ahead turnover accounted for 1.041 TWh, while the intraday market handled another 471,421 MWh.
The average day-ahead baseload price rose to €151.63/MWh, an increase of 27.5% month on month.
Average euro-peak prices reached €124.38/MWh, up 43%, while the average intraday price increased 29.7% to €153.96/MWh.
Average daily day-ahead volume stood at approximately 33,571 MWh.
The increase in both turnover and prices shows that Croatia entered the late-summer period with stronger wholesale market activity even as the broader Southeast European region experienced increasingly volatile hourly price formation.
The growth of intraday trading is also becoming more relevant as Croatia adds variable renewable generation, increasing the requirement for market participants to rebalance portfolios closer to physical delivery.
CROPEX operates both day-ahead and intraday markets and is integrated with neighbouring European markets through Croatia’s cross-border market coupling arrangements.
