CROPEX begins day-ahead trading in Slovenia under European coupling framework

CROPEX, Croatia’s electricity exchange, began operating in Slovenia’s day-ahead market on October 21, extending its activity beyond its domestic bidding zone. Operations started under Slovenia’s Multi-NEMO Arrangement and the European Single Day-Ahead Coupling framework.

The launch enables existing and new CROPEX members to trade in both the Croatian and Slovenian bidding zones. It followed several months of technical, contractual and operational preparations, giving market participants another route into the Slovenian wholesale market.

CROPEX has operated in Croatia for more than a decade. Its entry into Slovenia is part of its regional expansion, while the exchange is also preparing to enter Slovenia’s intraday market through the Single Intraday Coupling project.

The expansion comes as power exchanges across Central and Southeast Europe compete increasingly across national borders while remaining integrated through European market-coupling mechanisms.
