Romania: Day-ahead electricity market sees sharp price decline in February 2026

The average price of electricity on the day-ahead market of the Romanian energy exchange OPCOM dropped to 99.75 euros/MWh in February 2026, marking a 36.54 % decline compared to February 2025 and a 33.73 % decrease from the previous month, when the average baseload price was 150.51 euros/MWh.

Traded volumes in February reached 1.48 million MWh, up 11.48 % versus February 2025 but 3.01 % lower than in January 2026. The average traded volume for the month stood at 2,195.1 MWh/h.

The total transaction value in February amounted to 150.3 million euros, reflecting a 29.98 % decline compared to February 2025 (214.6 million euros) and a 36.34 % drop from January (236.1 million euros). The day-ahead market share of forecasted net consumption in February 2025 was 32.47 %.

On the intraday market, a total of 133,576.7 MWh was traded in February, down 35.93 % from February 2025 and 16.54 % versus January 2026. The average intraday price reached 92.78 euros/MWh, 38.94 % lower than the same month last year and 42.34 % below the previous month’s level.

The February 2026 data indicate a notable correction in electricity prices, accompanied by moderate trading volumes, reflecting both weaker market fundamentals and a continued softening of demand, AleaSoft reports.
