Europe: Weekly shifts in solar and wind energy production across major markets

During the week of March 2, solar photovoltaic (PV) energy production increased in the German and French markets compared to the previous week. The German market recorded the largest growth, 59%, and maintained an upward trend for the fifth consecutive week. Meanwhile, the French market experienced the smallest increase, 6.1%, marking its third consecutive week of growth.

In contrast, the Iberian and Italian markets shifted to a downward trend after previous gains. The Spanish market recorded the largest decline, 24%, followed by Italy with a 17% drop, while the Portuguese market saw the smallest reduction, 14%.

For the week of March 9, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting projects that solar PV production will increase in Spain and Italy, while the German market is expected to reverse its upward trend and experience a decline.

During the first week of March, wind energy production rose in most major European markets compared to the previous week. The Iberian markets posted the largest gains, 103% in Spain and 32% in Portugal, reversing the downward trend observed in the previous two weeks. Italy recorded the smallest increase, 14%.

Conversely, the French and German markets accumulated declines for the second consecutive week. The German market experienced the largest reduction in wind production, 63%, while France saw a 47% decrease.

In the second week of March, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting expects wind energy production to increase in France and Germany, reversing the previous downward trend. However, the Iberian and Italian markets are forecasted to see a decline in wind production during the same period, AleaSoft reports.
