Hungary: HUPX August power price rises 24% as day-ahead volumes increase

Hungarian day-ahead electricity prices rose sharply in August while trading volumes increased both month on month and year on year.

The average HUPX day-ahead baseload price reached €152.17/MWh, up 24.4% from €122.35/MWh in July.

The reported average peak price rose 37.6% to €123.17/MWh.

Day-ahead traded volume reached 2.92 TWh, an increase of 15.5% from 2.52 TWh in July and 13.6% from 2.57 TWh in August 2025.

Intraday continuous-market turnover reached almost 1.31 TWh, up 0.9% month on month.

HUPX had 133 registered day-ahead members in August, three more than in July, and 130 intraday continuous-market members.

The combination of higher turnover and sharply higher baseload prices highlights the tightening that affected the Hungarian market during August, while continued growth in participation and traded volumes reinforces HUPX’s role as a core price reference for Southeast European power trading.
