Romania: Electricity market shows stable activity amid price fluctuations

The average price of electricity on the day-ahead market of the Romanian energy exchange OPCOM stood at 105.15 euros/MWh in March 2026. This represents a decrease of 1.14% compared to March 2025, but an increase of 5.41% compared to the previous month, when the average baseload price was 99.75 euros/MWh.

Traded volume on the day-ahead market reached 1.36 million MWh in March, marking a slight increase of 0.68% compared to the same period last year, while remaining 8.08% lower than in February. The average traded volume was 1,824.9 MWh per hour, reflecting steady market activity.

The total value of transactions amounted to 148.1 million euros, which is 2.96% higher than in March last year, but 1.43% lower compared to the previous month. The share of the day-ahead market in forecasted net consumption reached 29.89%, indicating a solid level of market participation.

On the intraday market, a total of 158,095.2 MWh was traded in March, which is 22.35% less than in March 2025, but 18.36% higher than in February. The average intraday price stood at 88.02 euros/MWh, reflecting a decline of 7.29% year-on-year and 5.13% compared to the previous month.
