Hungary: Prices fall sharply as volumes decline on HUPX in February 2026

The average electricity price on the day-ahead market (DAM) of the Hungarian energy exchange HUPX reached 113.29 euros/MWh in February 2026, marking a 24.7 % decrease compared to January, when the average baseload price was 150.41 euros/MWh. The average peak price on HUPX DAM also fell significantly to 122.26 euros/MWh, down 30.7 % from January.

The day-ahead traded volume totaled 2.95 million MWh, which is 12.7 % lower than January’s 3.41 million MWh, but still 21 % higher than February 2025 (2.44 million MWh). On the intraday continuous market, a total of 973,062 MWh was traded, reflecting an 11.5 % decline compared to the previous month.

In February 2026, HUPX had 116 registered members on the day-ahead market and 108 members on the intraday continuous market, maintaining a stable participation base despite the lower trading activity.
