During the week of August 24, solar photovoltaic energy production in Germany increased by 20% compared with the previous week, recovering after the decline recorded the week before. In contrast, solar power generation decreased across the other major European electricity markets. Portugal experienced the largest drop, with production falling by 19%, followed by Spain and France, where output declined by 11% and 8.7%, respectively. Italy recorded the smallest decrease, at 2.5%.
The downward trend continued in several markets. Portugal and France registered declines for the second consecutive week, while Spain and Italy experienced their fourth consecutive week of falling solar energy production.
For the week beginning August 31, forecasts from AleaSoft Energy Forecasting indicate an increase in solar energy production in the Spanish and Italian markets. However, solar power generation is expected to decline in Germany.
Meanwhile, wind energy production increased across all major European electricity markets during the fourth week of August compared with the previous week. Portugal recorded the strongest growth, with wind generation rising by 60%, followed closely by Germany with a 55% increase. France and Spain saw increases of 27% and 23%, respectively, while Italy registered the smallest growth, at 4.6%.
Germany, France, Portugal and Spain recorded wind energy production increases for the second consecutive week, while Italy extended its positive trend to a third consecutive week of growth.
The week also brought notable records for wind power generation. On August 24, Portugal reached 81 GWh of wind energy production, marking the highest level ever recorded for an August day. Later, on August 29, France generated 218 GWh of wind energy, its highest daily production level for August since 2023.
Looking ahead to the week of August 31, forecasts from AleaSoft Energy Forecasting suggest that wind energy production will continue to increase in the German market. In contrast, wind power generation is expected to decline in France, Spain, Portugal and Italy, AleaSoft reports.
