Albania: ALPEX records strong growth in April 2026 trading volumes and market value

The Albanian electricity exchange ALPEX reported a significant increase in activity on its day-ahead market in April 2026, with total traded electricity volume reaching 190.1 GWh. This represents a rise of 15.2% compared to March 2026 and a strong 48.7% increase compared to April 2025, highlighting continued market expansion and liquidity growth across the platform.

Of the total traded volume, 111.4 GWh was allocated to the Kosovo bidding zone, while 118.3 GWh was traded in the Albania bidding zone. The average market clearing price stood at 84.59 €/MWh for Albania and 84.95 €/MWh for Kosovo, resulting in an overall ALPEX average price of 84.77 €/MWh.

The total value of transactions on ALPEX during April reached approximately 30.38 million euros, marking a 39.3% year-on-year increase, reflecting both higher volumes and stable price levels across the two bidding zones.

The exchange was established by the Albanian transmission system operator OST and Kosovo’s counterpart KOSTT in October 2020, with its first Albanian auction taking place in April 2023. Since then, ALPEX has grown into a regional trading platform with a total of 36 members operating across the Albania and Kosovo bidding zones, playing an increasingly important role in regional electricity market integration.
