Albania: ALPEX reports strong annual growth in trading value despite monthly volume decline in March 2026

The Albanian electricity exchange ALPEX reported that total electricity traded on its day-ahead market reached 165.32 GWh in March 2026, representing a decline of 16.3% compared to the previous month, but also a significant increase of 72.2% year-on-year compared to March 2025.

Of the total volume, 111.4 GWh was traded for the Kosovo bidding zone, while 104.5 GWh was allocated to the Albania bidding zone. The average price across ALPEX stood at €96.89/MWh, recorded uniformly for both bidding zones.

The total transaction value on ALPEX in March amounted to approximately €15.1 million, marking a strong 48% increase year-on-year.

ALPEX was established in October 2020 by the Albanian Transmission System Operator (OST) and its Kosovo counterpart (KOSTT). The first auction on the Albanian market was held in April 2023. Today, the exchange has a total of 36 members operating across the Albania and Kosovo bidding zones.
